.Arbroath is a very experienced high energy duo from Sacramento, California focusing on Scottish traditional and modern folk music and sung in English, Scots and Scottish Gaelic along with original songs written by lead singer/songwriter, Douglas McLean. Sometimes he writes the words and music about a book or a story he read, other times he likes to put the words of Scottish poets to music and occasionally he will be inspired to write words to a tune. Whether singing a heartfelt Gaelic love ballad or a Scottish battle song, his music resides at the heart of Celtic culture.
McLean began performing about 1990 in the duo "Dewar and McLean" which consisted of Linda Dewar and Douglas McLean. In 1996 they released a popular album entitled "Seeds Upon the Wind", still available on Pandora, Amazon and Allmusic.com. About 2002 he began to perform as a solo singer and appeared in numerous Scottish Games and Festivals in California.
In 2010 he recorded the solo album “Highland Prophecy” which is available on CD Baby, Amazon, Youtube, iTunes, Yandax, Sound Exchange, Napster, Tidal, Deezer, Google Music Store and Spotify.
In 2011 he and his wife Roxy formed the group Arbroath. Originally it was a five-person band but following band member life changes they reformed in 2017 as a duo. Doug sings, plays guitar, bodhran and dulcimer and his wife Roxy plays bass guitar, keyboards, penny-whistle and sings. They both have a great interest in their mutual Celtic heritage.
